IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light, also known as photorejuvenation or the photofacial which can help erase mild sun damage, freckles, irregular pigmentation and light brown spots on the face, neck and chest.
Photorejuvenation refers to the use of Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) to treat conditions related to sun-induced skin damage. IPL uses a broad spectrum of light which is primarily absorbed by melanin and oxyhemoglobin and is effective in reducing the appearance of sun spots, capillaries, elastosis and fine lines.
- Optimal treatment safety and efficacy using Optimal Pulse Technology (OPT™) and Multiple Sequential Pulsing (MSP™) which facilitate achieving the desired clinical results with enhanced patient comfort.
- The Universal IPL handpiece allows for filters and spot sizes to be changed in seconds during treatment, reducing treatment time and eliminating the need for additional hand pieces.
- Preset treatment parameters for a wide range of clinical indications ensure ease of use and a fast learning curve.
What is IPL?
Intense Pulsed Light, popularly called IPL, uses a high-powered, hand-held, computer-controlled flashgun to deliver an intense, visible, broad-spectrum pulse of light, generally in the visible spectral range of 400 to 1200 nm. Various cutoff filters are commonly used to selectively filter out lower wavelengths, especially potentially damaging ultra violet light. The resulting light has a spectral range that targets specific structures and chromophores (e.g. melanin in hair, or oxyhemoglobin in blood vessels) that are heated to destruction and reabsorbed by the body.
IPL shares some similarities with laser treatments, in that they both use light to heat and destroy their targets. But unlike lasers that use a single wavelength (color) of light which typically matches only one chromophore, and hence only one condition, IPL uses a broad spectrum that when used with filters, allows it to be used against several conditions. This can be achieved when the IPL technician selects the appropriate filter that matches a specific chromophore.
What is IPL Photofacial used to treat?
An IPL photofacial can treat a variety of skin conditions such as brown spots, broken capillaries, spider veins, and facial redness. An IPL photofacial delivers a bright blast of light at very high energy levels through a hand-held device.
What conditions are treated with IPL?
IPL treatment effectively removes brown spots, age spots, freckles, broken capillaries, pigmentation lesions, flat birthmarks, pore white stains, and sun damage. Treatment areas include the face, chest, arms, hands, and back.
Uneven skin tone and signs of sun damage can be reversed in as little as 1-3 treatments, leaving you with youthful even-toned skin. IPL energy offers a gentle and steady improvements in the skin, the treatment is quick, painless, and highly effective.
