Clear boundary: Botox is a medical-aesthetic treatment. It does not cause medical weight loss and is not a substitute for obesity treatment.

What cosmetic botulinum toxin does

Botulinum toxin temporarily reduces selected muscle activity and can soften dynamic facial lines. Common cosmetic treatment areas include glabellar frown lines, forehead lines and crow’s-feet, depending on the product’s labeling, anatomy and clinician assessment.

Consultation and treatment planning

The clinician reviews goals, facial movement, asymmetry, previous response, neuromuscular conditions, medications, pregnancy or breastfeeding status, infection at the site and realistic expectations. Total price depends on product, units and treatment area; W8MD pricing has started from approximately $10 per unit, subject to change.

What to expect

Effect begins gradually and is temporary. Bruising, swelling, headache or asymmetry can occur. Rare but serious spread of toxin effect can cause swallowing, speech or breathing difficulty and requires urgent care. Patients receive individualized aftercare instructions.

Natural-looking results

The goal is not necessarily a motionless face. Conservative treatment can preserve expression, and a staged approach may be preferable for a first treatment.
