Medical weight loss questions at W8MD Philadelphia

Frequently asked questions

Who may qualify for prescription weight management?

Eligibility depends on BMI, weight-related conditions, history, current medicines, contraindications and the product’s indication. A clinician must assess the individual.

Does everyone receive a GLP-1 medication?

No. Semaglutide or tirzepatide may be considered for some patients, while another medication or a non-medication plan may be safer, more affordable or better aligned with preferences.

Is the first appointment virtual?

No. W8MD requires the first Philadelphia visit to be conducted in person.

Will insurance pay for the medication?

Coverage is plan-specific. Benefits, exclusions, prior authorization, formularies, copayments and deductibles apply. Coverage cannot be guaranteed.

What side effects should be discussed?

Potential effects differ by medication. With GLP-1–based treatment, gastrointestinal symptoms are common concerns; severe or persistent abdominal pain, repeated vomiting, dehydration or other alarming symptoms require prompt medical attention. Review the specific prescribing information with the clinician.

How quickly will I lose weight?

There is no guaranteed rate. Results depend on treatment, adherence, biology, starting point, dose, tolerability, sleep, activity and other factors. Clinically meaningful improvements can occur without reaching an “ideal” number.

How does W8MD help protect muscle?

The plan can emphasize adequate protein, resistance activity when appropriate, reasonable calorie targets and body-composition monitoring. Individual needs vary.

Can sleep apnea affect the plan?

Yes. Snoring, witnessed pauses, morning headaches or daytime sleepiness may prompt sleep evaluation. Weight loss may improve some patients’ sleep apnea but should not replace PAP or other prescribed treatment without reassessment.

What happens at a plateau?

The clinician reviews intake, adherence, sleep, activity, medicines, adverse effects and expectations before deciding whether to continue, adjust or change the strategy.

Is long-term maintenance included?

Maintenance is part of responsible obesity care. Plans may address continued medication when appropriate, nutrition, activity, relapse prevention and transitions if coverage changes.
