How non-surgical tightening works

Energy-based treatments may heat selected tissue and stimulate gradual collagen remodeling. Results develop over time and are generally more subtle than surgery. Treatment parameters, session number and aftercare depend on the device and patient.

When surgery may be more appropriate

Substantial hanging skin, functional irritation or large folds generally cannot be removed by non-surgical tightening. W8MD discusses limitations honestly and may recommend surgical consultation when appropriate.

Aesthetic treatment works best when it begins with realistic goals and an examination rather than a package selected online. W8MD reviews skin quality, tissue laxity, volume, muscle movement, prior procedures, medications, allergies, healing history, pregnancy or breastfeeding, active skin conditions and the timing of ongoing weight loss.

The clinician explains reasonable benefits, limitations, alternatives, anticipated discomfort, aftercare, downtime and situations in which treatment should be postponed. A consultation does not obligate a patient to proceed.

Results vary. Non-surgical procedures cannot reproduce surgical lifting or removal of substantial excess skin. Multiple sessions and maintenance may be needed, and no result is guaranteed.
