When treatment may be inappropriate

Pregnancy or breastfeeding, significant kidney, liver or heart disease, fluid restrictions, iron or copper disorders, G6PD deficiency, anticoagulants, severe allergies, active infection and some cancer treatments may change eligibility.

IM injections versus IV infusions

IM treatment is a small-volume injection into muscle and is generally quicker. IV treatment requires venous access, additional setup and monitoring. IV administration does not make an ingredient universally necessary or more effective. W8MD selects the route only after evaluation.
